Parental Rights and The Baker Act

In 2021, Florida created the Parents’ Bill of Rights. This new section of Florida law makes it clear that it is a fundamental right of a parent to direct the upbringing, education, health care, and mental health of his or her minor child. Additionally, changes were made to how the involuntary psychiatric examination law, the Baker Act, is applied to minor children in school.

In this interview, the President for the Florida chapter of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights covers the changes to the law and how it affects families in Florida.

Eileen,
Thank you for providing me with the knowledge I needed to have my daughter quickly released from an unnecessary and unlawful Baker Act. They released her within a couple of hours of me going to the right people with the right information you supplied me with. Now I can get my little girl the help she needs. Reply
